How’d I make my laptop look so NOT laptop-y?

Thank you very much!

They are SO easy to use! The hardest part was deciding what skin to choose! I toyed with the idea of designing my own, but in the end I decided to go with their design options. I visited the GelaSkins website and browsed and browsed and browsed… The choices are many, for our many devices… iphones, laptops, e-readers… gaming devices. You need to just hop over and see for yourself.

I finally decided on this design for my laptop:

Those colors just make me feel all happy and shiny!

I almost chose the same skin for my iPad, but my kids use it too… so I decided to choose something that all of us would love. And when I saw it… it was a no-brainer:

I’ll be honest… there is nothing I don’t love about GelaSkins. Their service was excellent, and the quality of the skin is excellent. Much more sturdy than I thought. But a note from the experienced – be sure you do clean your surface well. Not like I did… like, on the kitchen counter after a sugar spill. The skins do show those little bumps. It’s easy to make sure your surface is clean… mostly if you do not clean and apply over a sugar spill. It was just a few granules… but knowledge is power, people.

I was given a Woogie to review.

A WOOGIE???

Yes – a WOOGIE.

You must be wondering, “What on earth?”

What does it do?

It keeps Mama’s iPhone safe!

Remember that time right before Christmas when my then 5 year old was playing a game on my phone and she dropped it and the screen cracked?

No? Oh yeah, I didn’t really share about it for all the traumatizing it was…

I can’t help but think had my iPhone been snuggled by a Woogie, things would have gone much differently.

There is ONE drawback… now my kids want my phone more, and I can’t use my old fallback, “Sorry. You might break my phone.”

Regardless, there are times it is SO handy… to give her/her/him (yes, ALL the kids love the Woggie, even the 11 year old!) my phone to play games (educational as well as not-so-educational) so that I can do whatever it is that needs to be done. And is sure is nice to know my iPrecious is safe.

I got a package in the mail last week.

To most, it would seem like an empty-ish package.

It was a packed with a few mailers tucked away inside. A package of packages, of sorts…

The package was from Pixorial… a package for me to send “old-school” video to them so they can work their magic… and send Mama DVDs so she can actually SEE what is on those old tapes! (By “old school” I mean — VHS, Mini-DV, Hi-8, Beta, VHS-C, CV and Digital 8.)

So… I have a few *ahem* I need to put in that box. A stack of Mini-DVs.

And I know I have a VHS of my wedding somewhere…

Seattle’s Best in bringing the iced coffee to our homes!

I have had the distinct pleasure (yes, coffee + me = PLEASURE) to try Seattle’s Best’s newest product… their iced beverages.

I have had other canned/bottled iced coffee drinks, and I can kind-of take them or leave them. So when a few of Seattle’s Best iced drinks arrive, I thought it was cool, but… Others I have tried have been a bit too sweet for my taste.

I was pleasantly surprised. What Seattle’s Best has created here is a cold coffee beverage that appeals to my picky sweet-tooth. A level of appropriate sweetness sans the funky after-taste that many of the other drinks give.

I’m picky about my coffee, people. And even my sugar. Well done, Seattle’s Best, well done.

You know what else they’ve done well? They also appeal to my love for the word “awesome” (see picture above)… I feel an emotional connection with Seattle’s Best. I adore the way they describe their product…  from “awesome” and “chocolateness” to…

BTW, I am a Level 4… through and through…

I can’t find the can of vanilla they sent me, for my husband ran away with it. I can’t really blame him. But I did promise a pox on him if he came near the other cans. I did let him have a drink of the other two, but I have my priorities, people.

I attended the camp of ALL CAMPS back in October.

COFFEE CAMP… by Seattle’s Best Coffee.

*BAM*

But we didn’t stay in tents. We stayed at the Alexis Hotel in Seattle. And had coffee. PLENTY of coffee.

{And wine}

Of course… coffee camp was in SEATTLE. Had it been in any other city, surely the universe would have gone wonky.

While at the Seattle’s Best Coffee sponsored coffee camp…

I did and learned many fun things!

While at camp, we went “bright spotting”!

The campers were each given $20 and a Flip and a charge to create bright spots. So Janice and another gal (GAH! Who?!) and I took our cumulative $60 and did some damage! *BOOM* We bought chocolate for unsuspecting strangers… got coffee and cannolis for the Pike Place Market fish thrower-guys for their coffee break, and handed out fresh flowers we got at Pike Place market as well.

FYI, if you want to be the popular girls at Pike Place Market? Bring coffee and cannolis to the fish-thrower guys. They LOVED us. *flips “golden” locks*

Seattle’s Best has a theory, a good cup of coffee is a bright spot… it can make a good day better or (quite literally) be a bright spot to someone on a bad day. Nothing like a bad cup of coffee to turn the landscape gray. Seattle’s Best is striving to make sure a cup of coffee from them will always be a bright spot – for days good AND bad.

I think they are off to a mighty-fine start!

That evening, we enjoyed a nice dinner and watched a clip of The Happy Movie and listened to the director talk about the project… Seattle’s Best helped get the project finished. It’s no surprise Seattle’s Best got involved with the documentary – “happy” and “bright” are buddies like that.

After a good night’s rest, we went on a guided tour of Pike Place Market…

I caught a fish! Like, WITH MY HANDS. And then I washed my hands really good. Someone has picture-proof of me with that fish, but I was too busy catching a fish to get a picture of me catching. So, instead… I offer a picture of what it looks like from behind the counter! One that I took BEFORE I caught the fish and impressed all the men with my bravery, yet maintained my feminine appeal *cough*.

And they remembered we brought them coffee and cannolis the afternoon before.

Popular? INDEEEEED.

I felt so special earthy fishy.

THEN… We got COFFEEd UP.

And up…

and up…

and UP…

And also… UP.

And had cupcakes.

Whoa nellie.

Best. Day Ever.

And that was just until noon, then… “cupping”. This was where we got to “taste test” different types of coffee beans (the green to the roasted) as well as types of roasts. Not pork roasts… BEAN ROASTS.

*eyes go wonky*

This is why Seattle’s Best are the professionals.

Also, “roasts” is a funny looking word.

But I digress.

These are beans from parchment to roasted…

Did you know that coffee beans come inside a little jacket of parchment?

Then we “cupped”… Or SLURPED…

We didn’t swallow. We slurped. We let our pallets aerate the coffiness…

Thennnnnn spit.

Like 11 different times.

Campers experienced all levels of coffee beans through the roasting process… and 4 different roasts.

And then we were introduced to Seattle’s Best “Levels” system

I am rich. elegant and complex.

Shut up.

Read the character profile… “A coffee for both the connoiseur and those who occasioanally have trouble spelling it.”

How did they know I don’t know how to spell conisshure connoiseur?!

And these are ladies I think are super. Super enough to take a picture of. We spat coffee together one day…

The video is pretty fun, but I have to say holding my 20 page book IN my two hands is awesome. The quality is great. The glossy hard cover is the same quality as a hardcover book. This is my cover:

And inside are 20 pages of pure preciousness.

I found Scrapblog to be  super-super easy to use. The hardest part was choosing the pictures! I chose a theme to give myself a design foundation. And then I added a few backgrounds and stickers to add some diversity to my package. There are paid options as well as lots and lots of free stickers and backgrounds to add! I was in option heaven!

Other cheer-worthy features include – the ability to crop pictures AND to edit further – make black and white, antique, even advanced features like fixing contrast… Uploading was easy. It took some time, but once loaded the pictures were easy to place and the site worked very well. I work with pictures online often, and I was concerned about slow loading. I did not experience any issues on Scrapblog.

From books to cards to calendars, there is a whole world of options at ScrapBlog. A PERFECT place to create a meaningful gift *Christmas much?* Furthermore… I also have online access to my precious creation! Technically, it was a “yellow jacket”, but my title was getting too long, so…

Have you seen the NBC show “Community“?

It’s about a band of community college misfits. To paint a broad-brush stroke of the show… It’s funny. Sharp, Witty. Chevy Chase. I know, Chevy is a proper noun, but he is beyond such trivial grammatical limits.

And minus the Chevy Chase part, I feel me and “Community” are kind-of a lot alike. *ahem*

I digress… this Thursday night (11/11/10) gives us a new “Community” episode. One in which Annie’s (Alison Brie) favorite pen goes missing… and suspects the culprit is a member of the study group. and Jeff (Joel McHale) takes the lead in conducting the search.

Joel McHale. Yeah. I got to talk to him on the telephone. All my friends said I was cool for getting to do that… To be able to listen to his not on television voice. And have his very own voice respond to my very own voice…

But I was just a pawn, really… “Jenny! You’re so cool! No, really… Um… Can you ask him if he’ll marry me?” And all my husband wanted to know was, “But how much can he bench press? Ask him.”

True story. As is the rest…

It came time to call in and join handful of other practically-celebrities such as myself… Danielle, Aimee, Catherine… to name a few.

Except I was a good 5 minutes late… because Lucy, my 5 year old…

SPILLED HER ENTIRE CUP OF STRAWBERRY MILK ON THE CARPET.

I finally got placed into the call, but I was having issues. I’ll save the details, but suffice it to say…

I HUNG UP ON MYSELF, er… ON THE ENTIRE CALL!!!

I fired up my cell phone and home phone, dueling banjosphones seeing which one would get me back on the call first.

I got back on the call, pressed 1 and 4… to get back in cue to ask my question and…

KNOCKED A SCREEN OFF ONE OF MY BEDROOM WINDOWS

Mind you – I had no idea when I would get my turn to grill Joel (yes, I call him “Joel”)… I just knew I had to be ready when I came off mute. I picked up the window screen and sat back down.

KEVIN BEGAN TO ATTACK AN EARPLUG.

His FLOMPS and FROMPS filled all the noise space in my room as 70 pounds of that dog came down on that poor earplug. Over and over and over and over and over. Again.

Meanwhile, each person is having her turn and chatting up A REAL-LIFE CELEBRITY MAN.

And Lucy started crying.

She wanted more strawberry milk.

Kevin started crying.

He wanted out. We have property. And wild bunnies. Kevin would love to play with a bunny like he played with that earplug.

Grab a cup of coffee, friends… I am not even close to done….

I begged Lucy, “You can cry all you want, but can you wait until after I am done with my phone call????!!!” My voice ascending with each word…

“OK, Mama.”

*blinking*

I put Kevin on the back porch.

The call and the questions continued…

And I went back upstairs to my room.

And then Lucy’s Hello Kitty show ended and she tried to navigate to the next episode on on her own and I have no idea what she did , but… she must’ve enabled the voice command or some robot-thing that computers have inside because

C3PO’s AMERICAN THIRD COUSIN STARTED TALKING

WITH VOLUME CONTROL AT 11

By this point I am sure that AT ANY MOMENT it is going to be my turn and Joel McHale is going to think Jenny On the Spot is a male robot.

I shut-down the computer, and made Lucy chocolate milk.

Desperate times… desperate measures.

By this time I am pretty sweaty. I feel feverish and a bit out of sorts. By this time I had gone up and down my stairs so many times I might as well have climbed the Alps.

And I had to look around to see if there were hidden cameras in my house. I certainly wasn’t able to listen to much of the convo… might as well look for hidden cameras.

I found none.

And in 3… 2… 1… the moderator announced it was my turn!

*serenity now, serenity now*

I made some chit-chat with Joel about the fact that my son’s name was also Joel… and then I heard a significant BZZZZZZZZZZing. Remember that knocked-out screen?

I was supposed to be trying to reminisce the “old days” with the charming Mr. McHale… He grew-up around these parts…

Instead I found myself standing before a buzzing wing-ed creature with

A STINGER

{not to scale} {Satan’s help-mate was MUCH bigger} {I swear}

Eye. To. Eye.

Stinger. To. Nose.

I may have said the “S” word. In fact I KNOW I said the “S” word… how loudly??? I am not so sure. I do know that I raced about my room, WHILE “chatting”… opening doors, dodging the forward advances of the creature that could give me an owie.

Pretty sure no one on the call knew the certain death I was facing.

I’m like Houdini. In fact, just call me Shedini.

And I had to make a decision… Do I leave my room and get away from the winged assailant? Or do I leave my room and no longer have a noise barrier between me  and my Hello Kitty deprived 5 year old? Firing squad or hanging?

I left my room… and within moments… Lucy zoned in on me like maggots to death. I ended the call rocking in a corner in my son’s bedroom. And I took 2 candies from his Halloween stash. He keeps inventory. He totally called me out when he got home from school.

*sigh*

I have been provided a transcript of the entire conversation, but frankly… I am embarrassed to look.

Suffice it to say… the moments I was able to listen, I felt like I was listening to any particularly nice guy. Ya know, good manners, didn’t just answer “yes” or “no”… seemed to have healthy social skills and whathaveyou. Imagine that – a celebrity AND  human! *fist bump, Joel*

And despite all my running for my life, we were still able to talk about coffee. He LOVES coffee… so CLEARLY, Joel is my kinda person!

Update: about an hour later I let Kevin back in the house. I later found him in my room… attacking and subsequently GAGGING on what I believe was my winged nemesis. And to that creature I say,

WHO’S THE ALPHA DOG NOW?!!!
