The Breakfast Squeeze

Congratulations to Commenter #19 – Bonnie P!!!winner

Our go-to breakfast when we’re in a hurry – dry cereal and fruit! It seems, despite my best laid plans, we have at least one of those mornings each week. A morning where someone doesn’t get up on time, or someone dillies, while another dallies… or we can find shoes, or socks don’t feel right… or mom loses general track of time.

hurry, hurry

On those mornings, I am thankful for fruit… and for cereal we can pour into a container or baggie and eat on our drive to school. Combine that with a travel cup of milk, and I know I can wave my kids into the school building knowing they’ll be set until snack time.

Phew.

I work 2nd shift so there’s a LOT of those blind panic mornings when I roll over and look at the clock and realize we now have t-minus 10 minutes to get out the door. Those mornings even cold cereal (our staple) takes too long. Cold pop tarts, squeeze yogurt, cereal bars and even oatmeal cookies are my stand-bys. One time I made my daughter a “banwich” by splitting a cold cinnamon raisin bagel, spreading on some strawberry cream cheese and putting sliced bananas on it. She loved it and sometimes requests them for breakfast on those rare mornings we even have time.

Since things are always so crazy in the morning at our house, I usually reach for a Pop Tart or Granola Bar — and maybe a banana.

If I have bananas, those are the easiest to grab. Pop Tarts or granola bars are next. Then maybe prepackaged peanut butter and crackers.

I love breakfast, I would eat it for every meal if I could! If I have the time, I love to make french toast or crepes, but most mornings I just have cereal and a piece of toast.

MY go to quick breakfast is an apple rice cake with peanut butter and banana slices…I am gluten intolerant. BUT my kids,…they are all about cereal (even taken in a baggy if they are REALLY late) or a granola bar, bagel and peanut butter, or poptarts or granola bars. AND a big glass of milk they HAVE to have, even if they have to slam it and walk out the door with milk mustache! Hey, I’m from Wisconsin and grew up on a farm so it is a LAW in my house! haha!
