What is the breakfast routine in the Ingram home?

The best way for the kids to get breakfast is for them to get it themselves!

I’m kidding.

A little *wink*.

My kids are 11, 8 and 5.

the kiddos

We are finally in a season of life where *cue victory music here* the kids usually get their own breakfast. Hitherhencetofore… Cereal, yo. They like the independence, I dig their growing independence… They know what their breakfast choices are, and I make sure they have a couple choices in the pantry.

Let me defend myself, I am not MIA during breakfast, but if I am… it’s all good! The older two are happy (no, really) to pour milk over the cereal for the youngest… add a banana or a nectarine to the mix and voila! A simple breakfast that makes getting out the door on time easier. With this little “arrangement”, Mom can be switching out laundry, making lunches for school, showering (WOO-HOO!!!) or maybe even sleeping “just two more minutes”. The kids know what to do and where to go.

I am LOVING this stage of motherhood…

Every morning I eat cereal. I am a simple guy. I like it with sliced strawberries, and, if my wife isn’t looking, I sneak in a teaspoon of sugar:)

I have a six month old. So every morning, we get up and he watches while I make my breakfast (usually cereal or toast or waffles). Then I heat up his breakfast (usually rice cereal, applesauce or whatever veggie we’re introducing). And then we sit down and eat together. Perfect!

My kids like to mix their cereal. 99% of the time they eat cereal in the morning, but my oldest does like Eggos waffles every once in a while.

Ever since our daughter was born, my husband has prepared breakfast for us. I love it, since it gives me a little more sleep, and he makes better omelets than I can! We love hash and yogurt with fruit, bacon and sausage, and MILK to wash it all down!

I’m the only one in my family who doesn’t eat breakfast. My husband and kids eat breakfast every day. On weekdays it’s cereal or PopTarts (they all have kind of a sweet tooth). Because I’m not a milk-drinker, my favorite way to eat cereal is to make Rice Krispy Treats (or Peanut Butter Cereal–Corn Flakes or Special K–bars).

We don’t have a set breakfast routine in my house. It depends on if it is a morning when I have to work or not. Usually, we just have cereal or toast or something quick and easy, but if we don’t have to rush out the door, I will make waffles or egg and cheese English muffin sandwiches.

  19. 132

There are days when I make bacon and eggs, or pancakes, mostly just toast. But most days, my kids beat me out of bed and have some cereal in them before I even open my eyes!

My 2 little grandsons arrive at my house every weekday at 6:30 AM. I feed both a bowl of cereal and toast and jelly usually before putting the 2 year old back to bed, and taking the 5 year old to school. If I’m lucky I get to come back home and nap a little.

My two sons are completely different. One has to eat as soon as he gets up and the other needs to be awake for a while before he can eat breakfast. I let the little one eat a yogurt as soon as he gets up and then when the older one is ready, I’ll make them bowl of cereal, oatmeal, or a toasted English muffin. On the weekends, I try to do a nice family breakfast of pancakes or eggs and bacon.

  30. 121
    Betty N says:

I prefer cereal for myself in the mornings; my grandkids all have different preferences for breakfast…one has a scrambled egg plus fruit; I keep pancakes frozen in the refrigerator; and all of them like my oven cinnamon toast. But I don’t have thr responsibility of getting them off to school each day etc and all but the two youngest can get their own breakfasts and they have siblings who can make breakfast for them.

I need more protein in my diet, so I’ve been trying to eat more eggs, but I’d usually rather have a bowl of cereal or some yogurt.

During the school week there’s never any time for a cooked breakfast and my daughter always tries to get out of the house without eating something. It’s my pet peeve that she HAS to have something to eat for breakfast or I feel like the bad-mommy. It’s usually cereal or even waffles during the week, on weekends I try to cook pancakes and bacon or omelets.
