This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.
Sure, you could bring homemade ice cream or potato salad or fruit salad to the Fourth of July bar-b-que this year. Everyone likes that stuff. And everybody brings that stuff.
Who wants to be like everybody else? What about bringing sparklers? No, not the ones that are a fire hazard… everybody brings those too — how about Pop-Tarts Sparklers?
All you need to make these easy and festive holiday treats are:
an ice cream sundae glass:
some festive filler:
wooden skewers:
Ice Cream Shoppe™ Vanilla Milkshake Pop-Tarts® & a star cookie cutter:
Cut the Pop-Tarts into stars with the cookie cutter. I suggest lightly greasing the cookie cutter with non-stick cooking spray – the pokey-star-ends need a little *something* to emerge without breaking! Then slide a star onto a skewer! Add some festive filler to the sundae glass, then insert skewers with Pop-Tarts stars. I added a skewer I decorated with red and silver curling ribbon to add color and whimsy.
My kids and our sleepover friends couldn’t wait to dive in and eat their own Pop-Tarts Sparkler! Of course, there are always the Pop-Tarts Sprinkly Ice Cream Bites too… a great treat for a hot summer afternoon! For other fun ideas visit the Sprinklings site! So many holiday options!
By the way… there is a $100 Visa gift card up for grabs! And I am not the only one experimenting with fun holiday Pop-Tarts ideas! There are 8 other bloggers playing with food too, which means there are 8 other chances to win! Visit the BlogHer.com special offers page to find out where else you can enter.

My kids love swimming!

My daughter can’t wait for the wild raspberries to come out. She gets her bowl and picks away, usually eating more than actually gets in the bowl, but she sure loves it. It’s her favorite thing to do with Daddy!
Thanks!

My kids are grown, but when they were younger they liked making a tent by hanging sheets over the clothesline. They’d play in it for hours.
Their favorite are popsicles
My kids love getting wet on the trampoline. It creates hours of fun!

We enjoy swimming, reading, and watching new episodes of Top Chef in the summer.
I don’t have kids, but when I was young I loved orange push ups and ice cream sandwiches in the summer.
My favorite summertime treat would have to be those red, white, and blue rocket pops… summertime activity would be the slip n’ slide!
My daughter loves anything to do with water in the summer..since we don’t live near a pool..the sprinkler is our favorite stand-by. I usually hook it up in the backyard and she and the dog take turns running through the sprinkler. I love watching the two of them get soaked and laugh at the dog who loves trying to drink from the sprinkler.
Our son is two and he adores popsicles. And he always eats them outside because of the drippy mess

Hmmm, my kids are 10.5 and 12.75 and their favorite activities to date are attaching themselves via an invisible umbilical cord to the TV and/or the laptop. It’s only the second day of summer vacay and I’m already contemplating house wide “power outages.” Their favorite summer treats, naturally, come from the ice cream truck; nothing else quite compares.
I love a good cheese cake for the summer but my niece and son like cake and milk or soy milk cause my son is allergic.
My 2-year old just loves to play outside but really likes her new sand/water table. She also loves cake & ice cream.
My baby just turned one, and I think her favorite summer activity is probably running around stark naked between diaper changes. If she gets the chance, she is OFF!Like!A!Shot!
I LOVE your idea! I know what I am making for the 4th.
The kids love the beach.

I am a summertime watermelon fan, for sure.
The kids really love Jell-o and other cool treats once it really starts to get hot outside!
These look so festive and so easy to make that the kids can join in. Great idea. Looking forward doing this with my 9 year old. Thanks.
running through the sprinkler is the favorite activity, and frozen grapes the best summer treat!
My kids love frozen orange juice popsicles.

My kids favorite summertime activity is swimming, swimming, and more swimming!
Swimming and eating shaved ice!
Ahh… Pop Tarts… what can’t they do?
*My son is only 7 months old* – his favorite summer treat is pureed pears.
My kids’ favorite summer activity is definitely swimming in the pool.
