*Update… we have a winner! Amy was commenter #41. I combined the comments from 2 posts – this one and this post.*

Pop-Tarts… they have always been considered a breakfast item at our place. But as my kids get older, and they find more freedom in my pantry… often times our Pop-Tarts become a choice snack item. It took a bit of shifting for me to move from “Pop-Tarts” as a part of breakfast to an option for snack. I tend to be un-creative like that. I am a literal thinker.

But becoming a mother has changed me.

Take Pop-Tarts, for example. Not only are they part of a yummy (and easy!) breakfast, but they can make for a delightful morning snack!

Yummy!

Moms? Have you ever hosted a playdate? Have you ever found yourself at 10 minutes to 10 scrambling to find a snack to offer your lively guests? How many times have you had to bust out the flour to whip up some scones? I have a a fun and easy alternative! How about this — instead of breaking out the flour, milk and eggs… break out the Pop Tarts, a cookie cutter and some fruit!

playdate snack

For this tray of morning snack of yuminess I used a scalloped edged cookie cutter to cut the Strawberry Milkshake Pop-Tarts into fun, finger sized circles. I cut some muffins in half, sliced apples and some bananas. I put the snack items on a cute serving tray (above) to add a little *lovely* to an otherwise chaotic morning of fun :) What kids would love to get THIS snack at a playdate:

If you are feeling especially motivated, you can even send the little ones home with a snack for the road. For this one I used a heart-shaped cookie cutter:

Popped a bag over it and tied it with raffia…

So if the kiddos are too busy playing to eat, send something for the road!

Breakfast (or as my son calls it, brekdast) routine is oatmeal or toast and milk. Sometimes sausage or hard boiled or scrambled eggs. Mommy always has to have coffee!

I had some. Nomnom. In your pantry. I could easily become addicted to these. Very creative dear!

    Stephanie Kirk says:

I like to make eggs in a nest (sliced bread with circle cut out and an egg cooked in the opening). When I make pancakes or french toast on the weekend, I do a big batch and freeze the extras for a quick weekday ‘real’ breakfast that can be popped in the microwave.

Breakfast routine is to try to get them to decide the night before through mild brainwashing based on refrigerator/cabinet contents. Doesn’t work anymore, so I wait til morning and ask them to make a choice between 3 moderately health-conscious (really not) options. Being observant (sneaky) little buggers, there’s always the request for the secret only-for-special-occasions option (that I stupidly optimistically always have on hand). We get it down to a choice eventually. It’s pretty much always oatmeal, cereal or eggs & toast. And gummie vitamins. Then get them to put their dishes & utensils in the sink and/or dishwasher. On to teeth and hair. . . P.S. pop tarts are one of the special occasion regulars and also good to reward Mommies who haven’t lost their shiz by the time the kids get to school!

Boring old cereal each morning – when we get wacky, it means pancakes with chocolate chips, or my personal favorite – a bagel with Philadelphia cream cheese slathered on and crispy turkey bacon on top. yum.

I don’t really have a routine. Some days I don’t even eat breakfast and opt for a cup of chai or coffee latte. Other days I have a fruit smoothie or bowl of granola. On my lucky days, my hubby makes a full sit down breakfast from scratch MMMM! LOL

Our breakfast routine is the exact same every morning: we come downstairs, I pour my little ladies a bowl of cereal, a glass of OJ, give them a Flintstones vitamin, and we chat and I try to stay upright while I wait for the coffee to brew. I never had that kind of consistency growing up, so I love that every morning is the exact same. Comforting. Great way to start the day.

I love the poptart idea! Fabulous. We eat nutella toast around here, although I eat cottage cheese. yum.

    Jan says:

What a spread. Nicely done — just enough! My breakfast routine has improved greatly, in that I generally have one thing sweet with a glass of milk…that’s my treat for the day. I personally love the cinnamon poptarts (with icing, of course). Now back in the day when things were kind of rush/rush I will admit to the very worst breakfast I fed my children (this was a one-time event and they still talk about it–woe is me). Apple pie ala mode. I figured (or at least told them)–they have their fruit, their carbs in the crust, and the dairy in the ice-cream. I wonder if they will ever let me live that one down, but I do like some little treat in the morning to get me going and always have the cinnamon poptarts. Btw–they should be tried with icecream and hot caramel drizzled over them too. OK — I’ll stop now. I’m off to get a poptart!

  43. 58
  44. 57

Usually I get breakfast ready while the kids are getting dressed for school. I have quick easy things like fruit, toast, pop tarts, granola bars. Then we sit down together and eat, usually a little fast, to make it to the bus!

I don’t know if I’d call it a routine, exactly. I put the kids at the table, shove some food in front of them, then run and hide while the crumbs and milk fly! :-)

I usually have cereal but my son loves Chocolate Pop-tarts!

    Joanne Schultz says:

Usually breakfast is just oatmeal, sometimes with apples or raisins in it, a little milk, and some brown sugar(unless we have maple syrup – then we use that!)
