G2 – New Formula!

nohfcsDisclosure: I received product from G2 to use and keep as compensation for this review. Please see my disclosure statement for more information about how I conduct my reviews.

A couple of months ago I retweeted a link about the badness of high fructose corn syrup. I wish I had any way to find what that link was. But I remember the article had something to say about how high fructose corn syrup is not good for children. Of course, it is not good for adults either.

What say YOU?

Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by G2. They offered to send me a hydration package of their reformulated G2 to try out. By reformulated they mean – the HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) has been removed!

Their words on reformulated G2:
·         HFCS will be removed from all G2 moving forward.
·         The carbohydrate source in G2 will now be sucrose, which will fuel working muscles during activity to enhance athletic performance.
·         G2 provides an electrolyte blend that offers optimal hydration with 110 mg of sodium (per 8 oz) – the most important electrolyte for hydration – and carbohydrate levels designed to speed fluid absorption.

G2
I review this product from 2 standpoints: as (1) a runner/triathlete, and as (2) a mom.

(1) I have been running/doing/training for endurance events for a number of years (sporadically since 2001). Through my journey, I have learned a few things about my body… I need fuel. I need electrolytes. When I look for fuel to help me swim, bike or run for 2+ hours I really think about what I have learned my body needs most. Pre-fueling is imperative for me.

Pre-hydration is HUGE. I have found that my body really needs electrolytes, and my body tanks quickly if I consume simple sugars. 48 hours before a race I will take electrolyte tablets or water down sports drinks (50/50) in an effort to be adequately hydrated prior to my race. My body likes to get REALLY terrible, hours-ling (even days long) post-race tummy aches if I do not.

For me, my post-race tummy happiness lies almost completely on my electrolyte balance. I have no idea why. I am not all scienc-y. I just know when I do not, it can get ugly.

(2) My kids are busy. My son plays soccer. We drink a lot of water – but sometimes the kids want something else. We can choose milk, or juices, or lemonade… and on Sundays we have Soda Sunday! The options go downhill quickly. I have long-resisted sports drinks because of the sugar content, but would give-in for sports because I value the power of my beloved electrolytes.

I know water is best. But I know sometimes activities call for something more (see #1), and I appreciate that the makers of G2 have made an effort to address the needs of their consumers. For more information on Gatorade and G2, visit: http://www.gatorade.com

What are your thoughts? How do you feel about sports drinks? What is your perspective on high fructose corn syrup?

The Oxiclean Power Pac and a $100 Visa Gift Card!

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and OxiClean.

Update: We have a winner! Commenter #5 – Jesscia won via random draw (random.org). Thank you all for your participation! And congratulations Jessica!

Commenter #5!

My favorite clothes are new clothes. Why? On account of the fact they are so CLEAN! The whites are white and brights are bright! But a girl can’t only wear NEW clothes – nor can her children.

So what’s a girl to do? What is a MOM to do? Have you seen the things one’s offspring does to their clothes???! Some problem stains I have to deal with are:

  • Preschool painting projects, chocolate pudding, chocolate milk, chocolate, dirt, markers, markers, markers, *whu?*, markers, lipstick, lip gloss, muck, grime, ketchup, mustard, lolipop-ness, poop (yes, poop), and even blood. Gotta love body fluids!

Stains are gross. They also often make me feel helpless.

Enter Oxiclean and the beloved “Power Pac”. My heart. I’m talkin’ pink puffy hearts all over for my Oxiclean. Oxiclean sent me a package of the “Power Paks” to test. *my new religion, and I am not kidding* But I didn’t need to test my pacs of awesome. Oxiclean has been a dear friend for many years. She even helped me get Sharpie – yes SHARPIE out of a jean jacket my toddler decided to “bling out”.

But the “Power Pac“… how can complete love become complete-er? PUT IT IN A PAC! Mama don’t have to scoop and pour… now Mama just pops a pac in the washer. Be it a sunrise, be it a power pac – both are beautiful to me. However a sunrise won’t get chocolate out of a 2nd grader’s white shirt. I know, what kind of mother puts her 2nd grader in a white shirt?

I do. Don’t be a hater.

Enter: the Max Force Gel Stick.

This shirt has a chocolate pudding stain. Oxiclean encourages one to immediately start treating the stain. In my world, “immediately” pans out to be 3-4 days later…

Pudding on my Puddintame.

I have strategies — the Oxiclean Max Force Gel Stick, yo!

3…2…1…

CLEAN!

*BAM!* and *HOLLAH!*

So, there is my testimony and here is the science as I understand it:

The Oxiclean Max Force Power Pac uses oxygen to fight stains… It works WITH your detergent to make whites whiter and brights brights. Oooh, bright brights – me likey! Allz ya gots to do is pop in a Pac in every load!

The Oxiclean Max Force Gel Stick… it’s a pre-treater. It’s applicator helps dig into the fibers to stick to those stains and go to battle… for the sake of the white… or the bright.

Guess what? I have some $100 Visa gift card action for you, thanks to Oxiclean! Just leave a comment and share about your toughest stains. Aaand there are now 7 other chances to win the $100 Visa gift cards PLUS a grand prize $300 sweepstakes — visit the the round-up page!
