*Winner update: Congratulations to Audra… comment number 167 was the random number drawn at Random.org… Congratulations Audra!

Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry toothpaste… I mean, “Serious Strawberry” just doesn’t have that same ring, now does it? Getting kids to be motivated to brush their teeth is hard enough… we need a little silly involved! My kids really like music, so right now, to motivate the kids to brush long enough — they sing the alphabet twice… slowly. I know my youngest has been known to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. Another way I motivate my kids to get excited about brushing is new tooth brushes! The fun brushes are always a hit, but even just a new brush makes them giddy.
Of course, just having a big mirror in the bathroom is a pretty big motivation for my three. They are so full of themselves. Sometimes I peek in and watch them… watch themselves. My goofy, attention hungry fame seekers! They crack themselves up, and my middle daughter often stands in the mirror and works on her commercial making skills.
I captured video of MY 3 sillies trying out this toothpaste. Each had very different responses… but each, being MY offspring (lucky kids), managed to silly-it-up in their “I want to be famous” sort-of way. Currently all three are singing, acting and dancing in SCROOGE the Musical with the local children’s theater, and our level of dramatic and hunger for fame is at an all-time-high.
Additionally, their mother has an overly active appetite for fame as well, so… nature or nurture? Yes. And Yes.
Without further ado, I give to you… my children…

The kids like to brush! They know it is good for them to brush.
They just know that it is a must that they brush!
My child HATES brushing. (he’s 21 month and has only 6 teeth I might add!) It’s a struggle and I’m hoping he soon starts to go with it easily!

I get my kids to brush by making it automatic. Once they get use to doing it as part of their bed time and morning routines I don’t even have to remind them.

I made brushing teeth fun and I always sang (still do to my grandkids) that silly commercial from Ipana toothpaste – “Brusha, Brusha, Brush, New Ipana Toothpaste!” The little ones love it. I even had to call from Japan to sing it to my little grandson when he was 2!

My daughter is too young to brush her own teeth yet. When my stepchildren were younger, all I had to do to get them to brush is show them all the silver fillings in my mouth, then explain to them how they got there! Works every time.
Charlie likes to “sit on the potty” while we brush, which is a big deal for a diaper kid. Also, we roar like a lion (wide open mouth) and growl like a tiger (closed mouth to get those front teeth) and that works well.
Thanks! Just found your blog and love it already!
We brush each others teeth.
We brush every night before we go to bed. It is a daily routine

I don’t have my own children but I tell the kids I watch that brushing your teeth is the “in” thing that teenagers love to do. They want to be cool like the older kids so it’s pretty easy to get them to brush! I also brush with them so we make a game out of it.

We try and make it more enticing by choosing fun toothbrushes (Disney, cartoon characters. etc.) and flavored toothpaste.
My kids have the light up toothbrushes that let them know when they can quit brushing. They love to brush thier teeth and will do so without me asking ( They are 8 & 4)but we always do the ” who has the freshest breath contest” and the winner get a toy from the reward box.

My kids all started school when they were three years old. Part of the program at school was to learn to brush their teeth (twice a day while at school). They all just loved it from the get go so getting them to brush at home was a breeze. I am so thankful for our hometown school system that has taken this program on.
