Give Up the Ghost by Brandi Carlile

For the FTC: A CD has been provided for this review. I get to keep it.

Give Up the GhostBrandi Carlile.

Never heard of her.

That’s no completely true. I went to a Seattle Storm game back in July and she was sitting in the row in front of me. And 10 seats to the left. I saw some really hot chick come in and sit down. I was all, “Not fair.” I want her arms. Not for me to gnaw on like a chicken leg cuz I was hungry… no, for me to attach to my body. You see, she has good arms. I have “guns”. I wanted to trade arms with her.

Then the guy who had the arena microphone (I also wanted the microphone, I was in a mood that night I suppose), took a moment during one of the time-outs to tell us a celeb was in day ha–ouse! I was all, “Whu? Me?” And he was all, “Singer and songwriter Brandi Carlile!” And I was all, “Great. She’s got great arms AND she’s famous. Double not fair.”

I didn’t take a picture. I felt a little creepy for lusting over her great arms. I figured I’d skip on “stalker”.

So began my awareness of brandi Carlile. And just a few short months later… I sit at my computer, still with my set of “guns” and not famous self… writing about the famous chick at the Seattle Storm gave with great arms.

I bet she’ll never write about me.

But she sings to me. I listen to her singing.

Because she has an incredible voice. Rich, full, different… unexpected from a woman that looks like her:

What’d I say about her arms?

But this is about her music.

I chose to do this review mostly because my friend Lisa is into this kind of music, and more and more often I really like the songs she “JUST HAS TO” share with me. Chick music. Heart. Grit. Folky. I was hoping to find something to find something to share with her… besides my hip-hop and head-banger stuffs.

I did. As I write this the song Pride and Joy is playing. *pauses*

….. …..

Sometimes words just cannot capture a feeling. Music makes me feel. Pride and Joy is a gorgeous song.

Give Up the Ghost by Brandi Carlile. A great album.

Keep up on the ridiculous, the insightful, the always digressive…
