*Update! And the winner is — Betty N.! Congratulations Betty!*

Right before I found out about this review opportunity, I had the following discussion with my son:

Son: Mom? Does our house have a smell?

Me: Errrmmmm, yeah. But…. lemme light a candle…. What?

upnose

*This is not me. Really.*

Son: Well, Josh’s house has a smell, Sam’s house has a smell… does OUR house have a smell?

Me: Ya know, it DOES, but I know what you mean. I don’t know that our house REALLY  has “A smell”.

You see, my son has a very sensitive olfactory system.

sensitive smeller

He is always commenting on my perfume or lotion. He LOVES when I wear pretty smelling stuff, and it is rare he does not comment when I pop open the lotion in the car. I know when I am 80 and reminiscing about his childhood, in my quivering voice I will say, “Ooooh honey… remember how you used to tell me I smell good… Comehere and give your mama a hug…Sonnyboy… do I still smell good, do I still smell pretty?” He will be 56, and I will smell of old age, and pretty lotion. I will also be sporting gray pigtails, cuz that’s how I roll.

I am not exaggerating about my boy. There have been times kids have left clothes at our house and I will ask, “Who does this belong to?” And Joel will say, “Here! Let me smell it.”

Not. Kidding. No wonder the boy has wanted a dog so bad. He may be part canine.

I tell you ALL OF THAT to say, the sense of smell and what our smellers sniff is important in this here home.

*sniff*

So. Imagine the day we got our box of Febreze NOTICEables. We might as well have had “Jingle Bells” playing and pine needles scattered about the floor, for all the Christmas-like excitement. Listen in:

  • Ooooh – what kind is that mom?
  • *sniiiiiiiffff* Yum… Oh can I have that in MY room?
  • Hey! Oh! I REALLY like that one mom.
  • *scuttlescuttleplug* I get this one!*sniiiiifffff*

I felt like I was at BBQ picnic in a dog park for all the wildly sniffin’ my kids were doing.

Finally, I was all, “AWAY!” This is for ME! I am the mom! I am the blogger! ME! ME! ME!

We received 3 plug in units and 4 refills. We have one unit in our living/dining/kitchen area (BIG open space) and one plugged into an upstairs outlet. So, if my math is correct *shudder… math*… we have 7 scents from these people. And since these are the dual scented oils – it’s more like 14!

We were received: auntumn spice/harvest festivities, morning walk/cleansing rain, warm celebration/pumpkin harvest, pure refreshment/summer storm, clothesline breeze/meadow songs, lavender comfort/gentle vanilla, AND hibiscus/rainforest.

My evaluation in pro/con format:

Pros:

  • I have a pretty big house. One plug-in is enough for my 2 main floors.
  • We all really like most of the scents, though our family isn’t wild about the fru-fruier, flowerish smells. Our fave is the morning walk/cleansing rain and clothesline/breeze/meadow songs. I stash dryer sheets about the house because I SO love the clean laundry smell. Ya know, to offset the smell that the laundry is actually NOT clean, I suppose *hangs head*
  • There is a high and low setting option! While we like a nice smelling residence, we like it to be subtle, not “in your face”.
  • Easy to use.

Cons:

  • The main “con” is I wish there was one lower setting. I found that I’d plug in one for a day or two, then take it out for several hours. It goes back to our “subtle” preference.
  • We won’t be using the flowery-ish smelling ones. That’s just our noses’ personal preference :)

But to be completely honest, I agreed to do this review because I have been looking at plug-ins lately… because my son wants a “smell”. A week before the opportunity for this came up, I perused the grocery aisle for an option, and found my 4 year old nagging at me… so I was too stressed to make a decision which brand and which scent. So I left.

But I need to search no more. I just wish the interwebz was “scratch-n-sniff cmpatible. Go ahead, check – this is the morning walk/cleansing rain scent:

scratch and sniff?

Did you try? See. The interwebz is not yet “scratch-n-sniff” compatible. Somebody is working on it, I’m sure. HOWEVER, Febreeze has made their box scratch and sniff, so when you find yourself at the store, browsing though your options… just pick up a box and scratch-n-sniff away!

HEY! You wanna win something? Like, say, a $100 Visa gift card AND a Febreeze gift basket? You do? Well, the wonderful people at Febreeze are giving you that chance!

I keep my house fresh and clean by making sure my husband is in the mood for cleaning :) He does all the cleaning up around the house. I just pick up once in a while. Lucky me, huh?

Keeping a clean home is so important to me,it is my way of showing love to my family. A scent of Febreze is something the whole family can enjoy,it can bring back memories of a happy time. Keeping surfaces clean by mopping, vacuum and wiping down keeps germs at bay and keeps my family happy and healthy. I love to burn candles and spray Febreze, leaving a great scent in my home.
    Thanks

I am constantly drying the cast iron skillet on the stove top and ending up with a scorched smell. I use a salt crystal candle to get rid of the odor, but to make the kitchen smell nice, I spritz a little citrus spray. I use Febreeze on the carpet around the guinea pig cage to keep that room nose friendly.

We have a downstairs shoe closet full of our exercise and sports shoes. Need I say more? I spray Febreze on the shoes every day and it really neutralizes the fruits of our labor–thank heaven!

We have a furry dog, and snow. That makes for a smelly house! I try to keep her clean and dry her off as soon as possible. We keep the windows open if we can and use Febreze on the couch cushions.

Cleaning – not so much. I AM a candle fanatic, however! The issue there is that my husband is worried I will one day burn down the house by forgetting how many candles I lit and where. I love the idea of NOTICEables as I’m pretty sure they won’t burn down the house.

a shiny sink and a clear living room floor seems to make the “house” feel cleaner. fresh and clean smelling? it’s all a matter of keeping the garbage can controlled — and the cat box empty!

Clorox Wipes! My children all know how to ‘swipe’ with these wipes and quickly freshen a space. We also actually use Febreeze and one afternoon chore is to do a 3 second spray in each room. It all helps.

    Lisa A says:

I like to open up my windows and get fresh air into the house. I also like to clean with bleach for that fresh, clean smell. Room sprays will work in a pinch for guests coming over.

    Rebecca says:

It would be nice if they made a scent that made others think you actually cleaned your bathroom. That’s the best scent. It would be grand if said company could make a scent that would drown out dog smell, but not freak out my husband’s SUPER sentive sniffer!

  38. 63

The most important thing I do to maintain a clean, fresh home is to run the dishwasher as soon as it’s filled up. My dishwasher gets really stinky and demands to be cleaned!

    Anita says:

“What is the most important thing I do to maintain a clean, fresh home?” I think what’s most important is that I try to make sure no one leaves wet towels or other linens lying around, the trash is taken out regularly, and the dishes are clean. (I know, you’d think those are obvious things… but sometimes the most obvious are the ones most likely to be forgotten or neglected.) :)

Those first two pictures are something…..

I live where it is warm a lot of the year so I open my windows whenever possible. I love having the fresh air inside.

I just found your site and it looks great! That first picture made me laugh. And I love Febreze! My roommates like to leave things lying around and it drives me bonkers. There always seems to be some smell lingering . . .

  47. 54
    Katie says:

In the spirit of Jennyonthespot, I will be completely honest. I feel like I am loosing a very stinky battle with 4 kids, a grown man who will not be named, who likes to work out, but not so much the showering, 2 boy cats who have pee battles, and a sweet but very smelly dog. I vacuum and fabreze like crazy when someone is coming over and if some gets on the dog, thats not so bad. Although to be honest, the label does warn against this, so I don’t do it “on purpose”. I really need to win this.

  48. 53

The most important thing I do to maintain a clean, fresh home is to keep it clean. Vacuum, wash the floors, keep the sink free of dishes, empty the trash, and open a few windows to let the stale air circulate out.
